We looked at all the sorbet Maker’s on the market and did extensive research to help answer a lot of your questions.  Today we present you with the Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker.  We used our Uber Appliance Sorbet maker for a month so that we can get familiar with all the pro’s and con’s of it.  We wanted to share with you a real life case study and review of the Uber Appliance Sorbet maker so that you can understand if this is something that will benefit you and your family or if you should pass on it.

Before we get into the review of the Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker and what makes it a good investment or not, lets answer some of your questions first

What is a Sorbet Maker?

A sorbet maker is a kitchen appliance that grinds semi frozen fruits turning them into a soft serve consistency sorbet. The sorbet makers on the market today come in all different shapes and sizes, the most popular models have a chute that you place the thawed fruit in, using the chute pusher you push down the fruit into a spiraling grinding tool that churns the fruit into a soft serve consistency sorbet that shoots out of the spout and into your container or bowl.

It’s a pretty simple machine, simply a motor that rotates a grinder and the attached fruit chute and sorbet spout. Other machines like the Ninja Creemi are a bit more complex where they have special containers and the fruit is placed in the container, then the container is placed under the machine and the grinder is placed directly into the container.  The machine spins the grinder in the container churning the fruit into sorbet. There are advantages and disadvantages to this design. The biggest disadvantage is the limited size of the fruit sorbet container, you will make small batches and need to repeat the process several times to make a good amount to feed a family.

How a Sorbet Maker can help you lose weight and eat more fruit?

The beauty of a sorbet maker is that it uses fruits as a base for your creamy frozen treat.  This really helps you eat more fruit as that is the main component of sorbet.  The fruit is ground into a soft serve consistency making it feel and taste like ice cream but with way less calories, no added sugar and no fake or hard to pronounce ingredients that might not be all that great for you.  Simply add fruit to the sorbet maker and the result is a delicious guilt free treat.

The USDA and many health professionals recommend we eat at least 2-4 servings of fruits, lord knows we are not following that because its just so hard when there are other delicious alternatives and that includes the calorie and sugar laden ice creams.  What if you replace that mid evening guilty pleasure with a good for you delicious fruit based sorbet? Well that makes getting those servings way easier.

Why Vegans, Vegetarians, Diabetics and lactose intolerant people love sorbet makers?
lactose intolerance

Sorbet being fully fruit based, this sorbet maker great for vegans and vegetarians looking to replace dairy based ice cream.  If you or someone you know is diabetic or lactose intolerant then a sorbet maker is a great way to still be able to enjoy a tasty summer frozen treat without the negative consequences of loads of sugar or diary.  This machine can really change lives for those that suffer from diabetes or lactose intolerance. We want to note that this is not medical advice and you should seek advice from a medical physician if you are a diabetic on the proper treatment.

Our Review of the Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker:

Initial impressions, wow, what a great package, the Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker came in a really nice box.  Clean design from the outside of the box, once opened we see that it was really well packaged to ensure it does not get damaged during shipping

What is in the box?

We see the beautiful Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker, the grinding mechanism, fruit chute, fruit chute pusher, spout all came dis-attached but they were really easy to put together.  We found a handy user manual, but honestly this was pretty intuitive and simple to put together.  We also found a nice little recipe booklet with a few starter sorbet recipies for us to try out, that was a nice little touch.  We found a bonus item that we really that was neat, they included an ice pop mold in there too to make frozen sorbet pop treats.

How easy is it to use?

Really easy, we rinsed the grinder, fruit tray, fruit chute, fruit chute pusher and spout prior to use to make sure they are clean.  We put it all together, added some thawed out mango chunks in the chute then pressed the single button on the side of the machine and whirrrrrrr it cranked on.  Once it was running we used the pusher to push the thawed fruit into the grinding mechanism and waited as it started doing its magic.  After a few seconds the mango chunks turned into soft serve consistency sorbet, WOW, that was easy and so much fun.

We were having so much fun with it, the kids joined in and mixed in pineapples, strawberries and peaches. Delicious, we loved the final product and best of all it was all fruit.  We thought about how great this would be for any vegan or vegetarians that cannot have dairy.

What kind of frozen treats can you make with it?

Over the month we tried various recipes and they were all great to be honest. Banana based sorbet was the best, we even found out we can put mix-in’s like Oreos, Reece’s peanut butter cups, chocolate buckeye’s, chopped pistachios, chocolate chips, cookie dough and more.  One of the recipes included in the Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker Recipe booklet called for adding Nutella to bananas, that was actually really good, the final product was a lot like chocolate ice cream.

We had fun making fruit based sorbet, then adding chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, toppings like sprinkles, M&M’s, gummy worms and whip cream. It was really cool to be able to make homemade banana splits, delicious, nutritious, and really cost effective.  We all know how much taking kids out for ice cream costs.

We used the ice pop molds to make frozen fruit pops by putting in room temperature fruit chunks and placing the ground fruit mix directly in the pop molds.  We placed the pop molds in the freezer for a few hours and it hardend up pretty good.  This was a really good substitute to the Outshine fruit bars that you can get at the store.  The nice thing about this is you can make your own mixes of fruit bars, Outshine only sells one fruit type bars.  We liked mixing strawberry, blue berry and raspberry, we froze it up and it was awesome especially on a hot summer evening.

We even made home made puppy ice cream using just fruits, the dogs loved it and the kids loved making it for the dogs. We bribed our doggos with it to cut their nails, worked out great because it took them a while to lick the sorbet giving us enough time to cut their nails while they were distracted LOL. We love keeping our furry family cool in the summer heat.

Some fruits are just not great for sorbet consistency we found, we did not like having grapes in there, they were too watery. Apples were another failure.

We found the Uber Appliance Recipe blog to be really helpful in finding more sorbet recipes to try out.

How easy was it to clean?

The Uber Appliance Sorbet Maker was super easy to clean after use.  The nice thing about the design is that the grinding mechanism is tight up against the outside chute leaving a very small amount of sorbet inside after use.  We simply took the grinding mechanism off the machine, disassembled it from the chute, we removed the fruit tray and spout from the chute and rinsed everything with warm water then placed it in the dish washer on the top rack.

One hack we found was if any fruit got stuck inside the grinding mechanism, you can remove the rubber grommet on the back and using warm water fill the grinding mechanism with it to rinse out any fruit remnants that got stuck inside.
